Höfner is the largest string instrument manufacturer in Western Europe, producing an extensive range of quality handmade classical guitars, electric guitars and basses. The company is well known as the manufacturer of the world famous 500 / Violin Beatle bass as played by Paul McCartney.
Founded in 1887 the company still employs traditional manufacturing techniques with little or no automation or computer controlled equipment. Wood is still sourced locally whenever possible and seasoned before use in production, where skilled workers with years of experience form and shape it into a wide range of string instruments. The company is famous not only for its guitars but also violins, cellos, contra-basses and bows all of which are sold worldwide to students and professionals.
In addition to German production Höfner also offers a range of string instruments manufactured in the Far East, including violins, guitars and basses. These are represented through the CT (Contemporary) range and the budget Ignition range.
Höfner will be displaying standard and custom models from its guitar and bass range. The world famous 500/1 Violin Beatle Bass will certainly be there! Additionally expect to see models from the special “Gold Label” range - special models handmade in small quantities. Also we will be displaying Limited Edition models from our famous “Contemporary” range alongside handmade German built classical guitars for the discerning student.
500/1 "Cavern" Violin Bass
Inspired by the Höfner Violin Bass purchased by Paul McCartney in Hamburg in 1961 the "Cavern" model faithfully recreates the look and feel of that iconic instrument. It is part of the range of Violin Basses which also includes the "Mersey" model, a re-issue of a bass built in 1963 for McCartney and still used today.
500/2 Club Bass
First produced in 1965 the hollow bodied Club bass continues in production today for those wanting the unique Höfner tone but a bass a little larger than its Violin Bass cousin. Handmade in the workshops in Bavaria it is used by professionals, studios and collectors of fine instruments.
HCT Contemporary Verythin Guitar
The Verythin semi-acoustic was first produced in 1960 and numerous variants have been produced since. At just 1.25 inched body depth it is the slimmest semi-acoustic on the market. This HCT model offers the modern player the chance to play an iconic guitar at a very affordable price. With a spruce centre block and available in a range of colours and finishes it is an all round versatile guitar.
